I talk to a lot of people new to affiliate marketing. I am talking to a new affiliate marketer almost every day. Sometimes it is more than one. While affiliate marketing has been around for what seems like ages now, there are still a lot of myths floating around and general confusion.

This article’s goal is to “bust” a couple of these common myths that new online marketers might believe…

1. Takes Serious Computer Training – It is helpful to be handy with a computer, but I do not think a computer education is a necessity at all. Any technical or design work you need done you can outsource. Many of the most successful affiliate marketers have build themselves up from average 9-5 non computer related jobs. There are teens, stay at home mom’s, soldiers, retirees and people from just about every walk of life currently successful affiliate marketing. Finding a training program or a mentor is a big help, but anyone can do this.

2. I Have a Blog and Traffic But Nothing to Sell – What the heck is your blog about then? I can’t imagine there being a blog topic on the internet that can’t be monetized. You don’t have to push Kindles and eCigarettes, you can find products that match your topic almost for sure. First off – ANY product on Amazon. You can’t think of a product on Amazon that might make sense to promote on your site? There are adult offers too if that is your style. There are MANY affiliate networks, all of them packed with different retailers and products. You CAN monetize your current blog and traffic. No doubt of it in my mind.

3. It is a Scam – I don’t blame people for being wary. The internet is like the wild west of scams. Everywhere you look there is another “guaranteed riches” report, a push button easy cash system or other products that promise the world and deliver nothing. Affiliate marketing is different. It isn’t a get rich quick scheme, it is an actual industry. In fact it is a billion dollar industry. This isn’t some fringe, multi level marketing type home business. it is legit, so much so that Amazon is currently battling politicians in many states who have been changing tax laws due to the massive size of affiliate marketing revenues. It is not guaranteed to get you rich or earn a living, but everyone has a shot at it if they put in the work.

Don’t be scared off of affiliate marketing because of any of the above myths. You CAN do it, you don’t need to be a computer whiz and you can monetize just about any passion you want. It doesn’t take much to start, so give it a try and bust your own myths.
