How do I advertise my business online?

I’m a small business owner and don’t have thousands of dollars a month for SEO or online marketing. What is the best way to advertise my business online without breaking the bank? Is there a service or company that can help me with local business listings?

Google Local Business Listing is very easy to do.

If you can run your business, you can do a business listing, most of the details required are business name, contact information, website address and a 200 character description. Include some of you product or service keywords in the description.

When you submit, you will be asked to verify the listing information, with choice of telephone call or by post.

Telephone call is the fastest.

When the telephone call comes through, there will be an automated message with a 5 digit PIN number. You enter this into the box on the Google Local business centre, then click verify.

NOTE: You will need to register for a googlemail account then submit your website / business details to Google’s local business centre.

The next step is to get links to your website. This is one of the most important things that you can do to help your website with regard to internet marketing and search engine results. To do this you will need to list your website on as many websites and directories as possible.

These are usually the fastest way to get listed and get links to your website, as the paid listing directories are run as a business. There are niche/specialist and general directories.

Free Directories: it can take a long time to get your website listed. As the service is free, there may be little or no control of the quality of websites being listed. DMOZ is the most important free directory, it can take quite some time to get listed, but worth the effort, follow submission guidelines very carefully.
