where would a small online business go to ship items?
hello, i’m thinking about starting an ecommerce business soon.
When customers purchase and it shows the shipping and handling fees, on the other end is this the exact fees the business will have to pay to ship those items?
Where would a small business go to ship the items? would it be just like sending someone a gift through UPS or USPS?
It may or may not be the exact fees the business actually pays to ship those items. In ecommerce store software there are a variety of choices you can use to display the shipping and handling fees to customers on your website. Some choices use an API that does link directly to your fee schedule and would display the your exact cost. Other choices let you set whatever price you want it to show for each individual product. Some ecommerce merchants choose different methods for different reasons. Some merchants charge less than their actual cost just to help get the sale. Some merchants charge more than their actual cost as a way to generate more revenue.
To ship the items, yes, it’s just like going to UPS or USPS to send someone a gift. With UPS you can go to any UPS Store if you just have occasional shipments, or, you can arrange a daily pickup by your neighborhood driver if you have shipments every day. Same thing with USPS… just bring your packages to your local post office, or, you can also schedule “Carrier Pickup” right on the USPS website for any package you’re shipping by Priority Mail or Express Mail. Oh and a benefit of using USPS is that they provide free boxes! Just go to USPS.com to order them and they’ll even ship the boxes to you for free!
